How to Make Brown Sugar
Making brown sugar at home is surprisingly simple and yields results comparable to store-bought. You primarily need granulated white sugar and molasses.
Light Brown Sugar
Combine 1 cup of granulated white sugar with 1 tablespoon of molasses. Mix thoroughly until completely incorporated and the color is uniform. For a slightly darker hue, increase the molasses slightly.
Dark Brown Sugar
For a richer, darker flavor, use 1 cup of granulated white sugar with 2 tablespoons of molasses. Stir vigorously until the molasses is fully blended into the sugar.
These homemade versions work perfectly in cookies, cakes, and any recipe calling for brown sugar. Store in an airtight container to prevent drying out.
