Make Teriyaki Sauce From Scratch
Creating authentic teriyaki sauce at home is simple and yields superior flavor. Forget store-bought; whip up your own for stir-fries, glazes, or marinades.
Basic Teriyaki Sauce Recipe
Combine 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine), and 1/4 cup sake (or water). Add 2-3 tablespoons of sugar or honey. Whisk together in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it bubble gently for 5-10 minutes until it thickens slightly. For a thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, then whisk it into the simmering sauce until thickened. Cool before serving.
This homemade teriyaki sauce is perfect for chicken, beef, fish, or vegetables.
