Soften Butter Fast
Need softened butter in a hurry? Don't let impatience ruin your baking. There are several quick methods to get your butter to the perfect consistency.
Gentle Warming
For butter that's hard but not frozen, cut it into small cubes and spread them on a plate. This increases surface area, allowing it to soften faster at room temperature. You can also place a stick of butter on a clean cutting board and use a rolling pin or flat side of a knife to gently press and flatten it.
Quick Thaw
If your butter is frozen, try the 'hot glass' trick. Place a glass or mug upside down over the butter. You can warm the glass slightly with hot water first, then place it over the butter. The trapped heat will soften it quickly. Alternatively, grate frozen butter; it will soften almost immediately.
Avoid Overheating
The key is to soften, not melt. Melted butter changes texture and can negatively impact your baked goods. Aim for pliable, spreadable butter every time.
